This scholarship is awarded in loving memory of my late grandfather, Joseph D. Antonella, a man of strong character, dedication, and service to others. Joe proudly served his country in the United States Army Signal Corps during the Vietnam War, earning an honorable discharge with decorations in recognition of his service.

Beyond his military service, Joe was someone who truly enjoyed life and the people around him. He had a wide range of hobbies and interests that always kept his spirit vibrant. He never missed an opportunity to light up fireworks during the holidays, and every Halloween, you could count on him to be there with my family, handing out the full-size candy bars to trick-or-treaters. Those simple traditions were part of what made Joe who he was and are among the memories our family continues to cherish.

Joe also believed in giving his time to others, particularly young people. His commitment to youth development was evident through his service as a former Boy Scout Master, where he had the opportunity to mentor and positively influence the lives of young people in his community. His dedication to service, family, and helping others is the spirit we seek to carry forward through this scholarship.

This year, we are honored to recognize a young lady who has demonstrated that same commitment to serving others. Whether she was leading Veterans Day assemblies or singing and playing her heart out as part of Elizabeth Forward’s music ensembles, she consistently found ways to contribute to her school and community.

​

Through her involvement in the Tri-M Music Honor Society, she has accumulated more than 170 hours of community service — an incredible accomplishment that reflects her dedication, character, and willingness to give her time to others.

​

And while she may not have broken my record of more than 200 community service hours from the Class of 2020, I have to admit that she certainly gave me a run for my money.

​

It is especially meaningful to my family to recognize a student whose dedication to service reflects the values my grandfather carried throughout his life. On behalf of my family, it is my privilege and honor to present the Joseph D. Antonella Memorial Scholarship to Miss Bailey Dora.
